The Rouse Avenue court has rejected the bail plea of Aam Aadmi Party MLA Naresh Balyan in a case under the Maharashtra Control of Organized Crime Act (MCOCA). Special Judge Kaveri Baweja rejected the application after hearing arguments from both sides. At the same time, the court issued a notice to Delhi Police on Balyan’s petition demanding signature on the document for filing nomination for Delhi Assembly elections. The police had opposed Balyan’s bail plea, arguing that he was an associate in an organized crime syndicate.

Special public prosecutor Akhand Pratap Singh, appearing for the police, argued that if granted bail, Balyan could influence witnesses, destroy evidence and hinder the investigation. He argued that the witnesses have confessed that accused Balyan is an associate of Kapil Sangwan in the organized crime syndicate. He has provided money for the expenses of a member of the syndicate to avoid arrest after committing a crime. He cited 16 FIRs lodged against the syndicate members in different parts of Delhi and claimed that it had amassed huge amounts of illegal wealth. Earlier, the judge had reserved the order on the application after hearing the arguments of the accused and the prosecution.
